Weighing in at 70 minutes and a hefty 16 tracks, Elkie Brooks is clearly not out to short change anyone.

A real survivor from way back, her unashamedly slap bang in the middle of the highway with strong grassroots following and a sizable TV profile when there's something new to promote.

Predictably the selection herewhether new or tried and tested is not designed to upset the apple cart.

The way she puts over the big, soulful Every Little Bit Hurts suggests she's still capabale of giving it plenty of stick when the mood takes her.

She's back with five prodcuers, 16 songs and a new record company.

With a very large and loyal following, anything by Brooks will get solid sales but the failure of last years Bookbinder's Kid puts a question mark over chart success.

Such tracks as a spellbinding Every Little Bit Hurts and the Vinegar Joe item Black Smoke From The Calumet should ensure discerning radio play though.
